As previously announced, public dialup service through Illinois State University will be discontinued today, May 20. More information about the end of dialup and options for switching to a new Internet Service Provider can be found here.
Many users have reported receiving mass quantities of spam email messages in German. These messages are not viruses themselves, but are being sent unwittingly by computers on the Internet that are infected with the recent Sober.p & Sober.q worms. Most of these emails are arriving from off-campus sources. Computer Infrastructure Support Services (CISS) is trying to find ways to reliably block these messages, but as with all spam, it is difficult to do consistently.
